Food & Beverage (Groceries Too!)

Many smaller cities in the South do not sell beer and wine.  Fortunately for us, Townsend is not one!

Wine/Spirits

Brown's Creek Wine & Spirits While beer is available in Townsend you'll need to ride west on 321 for 12.5 miles to buy wine and spirits. Located between a Food Lion and Sonic, Brown's is open from 9-9 Mon-Thurs and 9-10 Fri/Sat.

Grocery

Village Market  Located just east of Highland Manor Inn and on the way to Wears Valley and Little River Road, the Village Market offers both fuel and a small grocery store that stocks most everything one could need (closest beer/no liquor).  7945 E. Lamar Alexander Pkwy. (865) 448-3010

Restaurants

A.J.'s Hearth & Kettle   Featuring a breakfast buffet and open for lunch and dinner. This joint is just across the street from the Highland Inn and was the most used breakfast place in town. Family Entertainment

Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center This facility just opened up and showcases the history and culture of the area. Located on a three acre site, the 17,000 sq. ft. center houses artifacts and exhibits. Also on the property are a variety of pioneer era structures relocated to the center. It's located to the east of the Inn and is open 10-5 most days, closed Monday. Admission is $4.

Wood-N-Strings Ever had the itch to buy a dulcimer but your local music shop didn't have one in stock? You'll never have that happen in Townsend. Wood-N-Strings stocks a selection of locally made dulcimers, Native American flutes, Ban-Jammers (whatever that is) Celtic Haprs, and mountain crafts. On Saturday nights they have free entertainment by local artists.

Little River Railroad & Lumber Company Museum The railroad was one of the most important economic engines in the development of the Smokys. It not only brought in pioneers and supplies but, more importantly, it took to market the lumber removed from the hills and valleys. Open from 10-5 and admission is free.
